When you ask for a consultation or home visit, you may find that the clinicians will want to talk to you by telephone before agreeing to your request. This is to ensure we have enough capacity to be able to see those patients who truly need a face-to-face consultation.
Many clinical problems, although worrying, can be managed by telephone. Similarly, some patients contact us with very serious medical emergency problems requesting a face-to-face consultation when the most appropriate action would be to dial 999. By discussing these sorts of issues by telephone we can provide the most appropriate and convenient service.
It is possible to receive advice from the nurse practitioner and doctors by telephone. It is not always necessary, or desirable, to receive a face-to-face consultation. Such telephone consultations allow others to see the doctor where an examination is needed.
There are many examples where a telephone consultation is all that is necessary e.g. deciding on the appropriate strategy after the doctor has received the results of investigations. We have specific times when this service is available. Please ask the receptionist or your clinicians if following up with results.
